In LexisNexis News, PressConference, FridayOctober 12, 09:30 hrs FinsburyTown Hall, Rosebery Avenue, London EC1

Fiyaz Mughal, a Liberal Democrat candidate in this year's Mayor of London contest, has acultural and professional background which will enable him to deal with the religious tensions which keep London on constant terror alert.

Fiyaz, a Punjabi Muslim by birth, is theChief Executive of a busy Citizens' Advice Bureau in Enfield, and a local Councillor in Haringey . He also heads a charity called Faith Matters which is engaged in healing the Israeli/Palestinian rift . Earlier this year, he won an International Peace Award from the Universal Peace Federation for this difficult work.

Fiyaz believes this gives him aunique insight into the problems faced by immigrant cultures and that, as a Muslim who has integrated seamlessly with British Society, he can help London bridge the capital's religious and cultural chasmmore effectively than any other candidate.

His bold proposals will be unveiled at a Press Conference in FinsburyTown Hallon Friday October 12th, in the historic shadow of the UK's first Indian MP, Dadabhai Naoroji, who was elected Liberal MP for Finsbury Central in 1892. They are part of a mayoral manifesto aimed at healing London'scultural divisions and giving new confidence to thousands of youngsters growing up in an alien environment.

If implemented, they would have asignificant impact on youth crime, our prisons and the capital's legal system. They also tackleproblems like Ken's cronyism, the environmental crisis, the Olympic juggernaut, planning autocracy and anti-Semitism.
